Heriberto Ocasio

Now available for both English and Spanish television, radio, and newsprint interviews and appearances. Heriberto Ocasio is uniquely positioned to speak on the conditions that have given rise to armed rebellions and to the revolutionary movement in Peru, including the secret trials by hooded military judges, the conditions for thousands of political prisoners (including New York native Lori Berenson), the social impact of IMF imposed austerity measures and economic liberalization.

In 1992, Heriberto Ocasio defied the threats of the Peruvian regime and its newly self-appointed dictator Fujimori and traveled to Peru along with other international delegates to protest the treatment of Chairman Gonzalo of the PCP and other political prisoners. Despite threats and harassment by the government, the delegation was extensively covered by the press and warmly received by many in Lima.

Heriberto Ocasio is himself a Maoist and a veteran of the movement against the war in Vietnam and the Puerto Rican revolutionary struggles led by the Young Lords Party in the 60's. He is a physician and in 1982 he traveled to Beirut, Lebanon and served as a medical volunteer in the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila.

He has appeared on television and radio, including live call-in programs, and his writings have appeared in numerous newspapers, magazines and journals. He has made speaking appearances on college and university campuses across the US, and has presented papers at academic conferences.
