A World to Win #28
(Jun 2002)

America’s Global Rampage and the People’s Resistance
The US imperialists’ unprecedented bid for global hegemony – “one world, one empire” – poses the challenge to advance amidst intensifying repression and war to lead the people of the world to meet new dangers and seize the new opportunities that are bound to emerge for equally unprecedented advances in world revolution. A special section examines the initial phase in this war waged in Afghanistan.

Palestine on the Front Line
Israeli armour has come up against an unyielding force: the spirit of the Palestinian people. How the Second Intifada arose from the collapse of the Oslo peace accords. What are the obstacles to advancing the Palestinian struggle to a higher stage

Islam: Ideology and Tool of the Exploiting Classes
An examination of the role that Islam has played as a political force in the world and the factors underlying its rise in recent decades. The Islamic political movements, far from being a major threat to the existence of imperialism, have held back the national liberation struggles and the broader struggle for social revolution.

Maoism versus Opportunism in Turkey
A polemic by the Committee of the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement analyses how one of the centres of the Communist Party of Turkey Marxist-Leninist has failed to grasp the decisive importance of Maoism for developing and applying a correct political line to lead the revolution in Turkey.

Turkey's Shining Trenches of Combat
For many months, the political prisoners in Turkey have been waging a life-and-death battle against the imperialist-backed regime there. Several thousand political prisoners, living in hell-holes notorious the world over, are fighting efforts of the country's rulers to force them into the even more oppressive conditions of the "F-type prisons". Dozens of the Maoist and other revolutionary political prisoners have already given their lives in this courageous combat.

Dramatic Twists and Turns in the People's War in Nepal
Five years after the People's War began, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) is leading many thousands of fighters, armed with guns and Maoism, to set up people's power in large parts of the country. Faced with this, the reactionaries have been shaken by internal fighting, which burst out most spectacularly with the killing of the royal family in June 2001. Here CPN(M) Chairman Prachanda gives an interview to AWTW dealing with the questions facing the People's War today and its part in the world proletarian revolution; also reprinted are important resolutions from the recently concluded 2nd National Conference of the CPN(M).

The Masses of Iran Gain Weapon for Making Revolution
Rarely has a vanguard party of the proletariat been so sorely needed or so thoroughly prepared as the newly founded Communist Party of Iran (Marxist-Leninist-Maoist). After the 1979 revolution that overthrew the hated US-backed Shah of Iran was hijacked by the bloody butchers of the Islamic Republic, the masses there have urgently needed a force that can lead them through people's war to seize power, this time for the oppressed. And now they have such a force: reprinted here are important documents from the Founding Congress of the CPI(MLM).

AWTW#25 "The Chinese People Have Stood Up!
- Mao Tsetung, 1 October 1949

Fifty years on, the historical magnitude of the victory of the People's War in China stands out all the more clearly. An AWTW editorial looks back at how Mao and the Chinese revolutionaries pioneered the path and practice that now serves as the basic model for freeing an oppressed country from the grip of imperialism. These lessons will strengthen the ability of those today who are determined to lead the masses in violently sweeping away the old world and beginning to construct the new one. An 18-page photo essay celebrates the courage and revolutionary determination of the Chinese masses who on 1 October 1949 did indeed "stand up".

NATO's Ugly War
The world's media are trumpeting that the US/NATO's so-called moral war in the Balkans is the harbinger of a "new age of humanitarian intervention". Yet the way the US and its NATO allies are waging the war- with the biggest military alliance in human history pounding a small poor country from the safety of miles up in the air-- and the hidden agenda for which they are actually fighting reveal that these imperialist humanitarians have very bloody fangs. Statements by RIM participants from NATO countries.

What Went Wrong with the Pol Pot Regime
This article sets out to overthrow the reactionary consensus that uses the Pol Pot years in Cambodia to bolster the view that "the more radical the effort to change society, the more catastrophic the results". Instead, the policies and practice of the Khmer Rouge leadership are subjected to an in depth examination from the standpoint of revolutionary Maoism, with some surprising conclusions.

A World to Win #24 (December 1998)

A World to Win #24 (Dec 98) Women - Slaves No More! For Maoists, the participation of women has everything to do with the character of the revolution being waged. Only a revolution that aims at the abolition of all social divisions and inequalities can unleash women to play a full role in society.

Cutting Through the Darkness In Afghanistan The battlefield of Afghanistan offers its own unique opportunities for revolutionary struggle -- and the Maoists of the young Communist Party of Afghanistan are determined to seize on the turbulent conflicts ripping apart their country...

Persevering in People's War in Nepal As the People's War in Nepal faces the biggest military operation in the country's history, General Secretary Prachanda of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) presents an overview of the results and prospects of two years of revolutionary war. Also, on why a RIM participant, the Nepal Communist Party (Mashal), has been expelled.

A World to Win #23 (January 1998)

A World to Win #23 (Jan 98) Workers of All Countries, Unite! An AWTW editorial leads off a section on the international communist movement (ICM) by reaffirming what unites the workers of the world and showing the need for an "International of a new type". It rejects views that would deprive the ICM of an organized centre, or that objectively promote unity against Maoism.

Naxalbari Thirty years ago the armed revolt of peasants in the area of Naxalbari ushered in a new chapter for the struggle of the masses in India. Led by Charu Mazumdar and other communist revolutionaries, the Naxalbari struggle constituted a dramatic break that transformed the political landscape in India.

People's War People's Wars are simmering in Peru and Nepal. The Nepal People's War, in its second year, is sinking roots and spreading to new areas, amidst calls from reactionaries to bring in the army, In Peru, the Communist Party of Peru (PCP) is proving its ability to maintain the 18-year-old War, despite the losses inflicted on its leadership and attacks on its line. Both show the power of Maoism, and are bright new bases for world revolution.

A World to Win #22 (December 1996)

A World to Win #22 "In the prisons of Peru itself, among the slum dwellers in India, in the 'electronic world' of the Internet, debate is raging over the two-line struggle which emerged in the Communist Party of Peru (PCP). Let's carry the fight against the Right Opportunist Line through to the end."

Two Line Struggle in Peru

"Nepal: Hoisting the Red Flag to the Roof of the World!" "The sight of hundreds of thousands of peasants and workers in Nepal standing up and taking on their enemies cannot help but inspire the oppressed masses throughout the world. It highlights the decisive role and vitality of the revolutionary ideology of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism and gives further impulse to the forming and strengthening of Marxist-Leninist-Maoist parties and organizations united in the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement. The initiation of the People's War in Nepal is a daring and glorious seep forward for the world revolution."

A World to Win #21 (December 1995)

After having already received a dramatic blow with the capture of Chairman Gonzalo, the Communist Party of Peru saw the eruption of a major struggle within its ranks over the strategy for the revolution -- what Maoists call a "two-line struggle." A line arose calling for peace negotiations with the US-backed Fujimori regime and for abandoning the People's War led by the PCP. This line based itself on claims that the international conditions for revolution today are bleak, and that the difficulties posed by the capture of Chairman Gonzalo and the changes in the situation in Peru are resolvable.

The Central Committee of the PCP has opposed this line, and has led in continuing the People's War in the face of these obstacles. The Committee of the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement (CoRIM) has closely studied these developments because of their importance not only in Peru but for the world revolutionary movement. The CoRIM has issued important documents and analysis of its own, and of others in the RIM, and has called for strong support of the stand of the PCP Central Committee to continue the People's War. The CoRIM has also called for the RIM and the people of the world to intensify their support of the People's War.

The major documents of this "two-line struggle" are gathered together in this issue of A World to Win, so as to help turn this battle into a great school of revolution and to give the greatest support possible to the PCP and the People's War it is continuing to lead, as part of the RIM's worldwide campaign to "Rally to the Defence of Our Red Flag Flying in Peru!"
